Frida Kahlo paintings

Frida Kahlo more than anyone embraced this revival of culture and infused all its elements into her art and her everyday appearance as well. She paints herself often wearing traditional Mexican dresses of the Tehuana style to more fully illustrate her proud heritage. The dresses’ bold,Salvador Dali paintings intense colors and frilly over the top designs are unmistakable and hard to look away from. Kahlo wore them daily and matched the ribbons in her braided hair to her outfits while wearing gaudy jewelry reminiscent of the Indians of Mexico that were now being given much more attention during this search for the roots of Mexico. Salma Hayek states that Frida was a work of art herself,Pedro Alvarez paintings and she couldn’t be more accurate .
One example of Kahlo’s use of symbols available to her through Mexican culture is shown in her portrait titled,Gustav Klimt paintings Self Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird. This painting shows Kahlo with a dead hummingbird hanging like a charm from her thorn necklace. The bird’s dark wings mimic Frida Kahlo’s trademark dark eyebrows. Mexican culture attributes luck in love to these dead birds. At the time this portrait was painted, Frida was going through yet another painful ordeal with her husband,Edgar Degas paintings which in itself may be seen as a theme in her work .
